Brief history of Dr N.N. Murali
Dr.N.N.Murali was born at Kottarakkara, Kollam District, Kerala in 1952 as the second son of Late Sri. N.S. Narayanan Potty & Smt. Droupadi Antharjanam. After securing MBBS degree from T.D. Medical College, Alappuzha in 1975, he completed MS(General Surgery) from Govt. Medical College, Trivandrum in 1980 and DipNB from All India Institute of Medical Science, New Delhi in the year 1983.
With a noble saga of humanitarian services, he joined Kerala Health Services Department as an Assistant Surgeon (Additional Insurance Medical Officer) in 1979 at ESI Hospital, Ezhukone, Kollam District. There he started his career as a surgeon with very minimal hospital facilities.
Within years he established as poor men´s "Potty Doctor" because of his yeoman services to the locality. He has to credit 29 years of glorious service in the department. He retired as the Deputy Director of Health Services and District Medical Officer, at Pathanamthitta, Kerala on 31st December 2007. He is very much fortunate to get his retirement ceremony at Sabarimala Sannidhanam "National Pilgrim Centre", in the presence of then Chief Minister Sri. V.S. Achuthanandan, Health Minister Smt. Sreemathi Teacher, Devaswom Board Minister Sri. G. Sudhakaran , Transport Minister Sri. Mathew T. Thomas, Sri. K. Francis George MP, Sri. Raju Abraham MLA & so many other eminent Social and Political leaders. Chief Minister Sri. V.S. Achuthanandan honoured him with a memento for his meritorious services. He was instrumental for the construction of a full fledged Operation Theater at Sabarimala Sannidhanam where crores of pilgrims assemble.
Dr. Murali with sea of experience has successfully completed more than one Lakh major & minor surgeries so far and his name got entered in the "Limca Book of Records" for performing maximum number of major surgeries between 1987 to 2011. Then he entered in the "Elites World Records" from UK in 2014 for the same. Dr. Robert McClure(born in 1901) of Toronto, Canada performed total of 20423 major operation in 1924-1978 as in the "Guinness Book of World Records". Dr. Murali has a total of 30121 major operations in his accounts till 2015. Even now he is continuing his surgical career in different hospitals like Travancore Medical College, Kollam; Sathya Sai Super Speciality Hospital, Kottarakkara; Azeezia Medical College, Meeyannoor; Mercy Hospital, Valakom; & Yogakshema Hospital, Veliyam. He is running "Murali´s Charitable Clinic" at Kottarakkara, "Dr. Murali´s Speciality Medical Centre, Mylom, Kottarakkara and also "Lions Free Clinic at Panaveli, Kottarakkara.
He is a member of Association of Surgeons of India, Indian Medical Association, President of Save Kidney Charitable Foundation, Kollam, Member of Kollam Surgical Club, Life Member of Red Cross Society, Member of Palliative Care Unit, Member of All Kerala Blood Donors Forum, Chairman of Lions Ambulance Committee, Member of Kollam Kadhakali Club, Chairman of Lions Clubs Charitable Trust, Chairman & Executive Director of "Lions Home", Charitable Society for Woman Empowerment for Differently Abled Women & Widows. He is the secretary of "Yogamayananda Ashramam Charitable Trust" at Vadasserikkara where free food services are undertaken for thousands of poor people.
Dr.Murali joined Lionism in 1998, through Lions Club of Kottarakkara. He excelled as silver Jubilee Club President and bagged top District Awards and International President´s Appreciation Certificates. He is the only District Governor in the Lions Multiple District District 318 who got International Presidents Gold Medal in the year 2015 for his charitable services, maximum contribution to the disaster relief and improving vision in and around the world. In his tenure as a Lions Centennial Project for Women Empowerment of Differently Abled women and children has been inaugurated at Panaveli, Kottarakkara.
Dr. Murali was honoured with a number of awards and recognitions including Rotary Club Excellence Award, JCI Outstanding Performance Award, Centennial Celebration Award for Kerala Kaumudi News Paper at Kottayam, Dr. V. R. Seelabhadran Nair Endowment Prize, Minimol Charitable Athura Sevana Puraskaram, Snehadood Athura Sevana Rathnam Award & so many social cultural awards.
He has travelled widely in different countries like Great Britain, Italy, Rome, Germany, Vatican City, Venice, Switzerland, France, Russia, China, South Korea, Canada, Dubai, Abudhabi, Doha, Muscat, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia etc.
Dr. Murali is married to Smt. Yogavathy Antharjanam and have two daughters − Dr. N.M.Droupadi MBBS and Dr.N.M. Padmini MBBS (Neelamana Sisters).Both were "Kala Thilakams" in the State School Youth Festivals and University Youth Festivals. His son-in-laws are Dr. Praveen Namboothiry a Nephrologist in Kollam and Secretary of Save Kidney Foundation and Dr. Krishnan Namboothiry a Laproscopic Surgeon working in various hospitals at Kottayam. Dr. Murali is blessed with five Grand Children.
